Tonight, some of Joe's favorite local organizations are joining forces to promote a special event. On Thursday, October 20th, 2016, afterschool programs in the City of Portland will be participating in the annual Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide celebration of afterschool programs. Portland will be one of more than 8,000 sites across the nation sending the message that afterschool is key to children's success, and that we must keep the lights on and doors open after school. Parents, media, employers, neighbors, school officials and others have been invited to help us rally support for safe, stimulating afterschool programs.  Two of Joe's favorite local organizations, A Company of Girls and Learningworks, are hosting this event.  ACOG is a safe place where girls come together after school and learn about theatre, the arts, and social skills, and Learningworks provides extended learning opportunities for elementary school aged children in grades 2 - 5 who are falling behind academically.
