joe says "sumr king"

Who's in the mood for some theater? The Summer King is a new American opera by Maine-based composer Daniel Sonenberg. The opera portrays the injustice suffered by Negro League baseball player Josh Gibson, once known as "the black Babe ruth", at the hands of baseball's "Gentlemen's Agreement" and also the thriving culture, characterized by black-owned teams, stadiums and taverns, nightlife and humor. Presented in collaboration with the USM School of Music and American Opera Projects, the play can be seen on Thursday, May 8th, at 7:30 PM at the Merrill Auditorium. Find more information at the official website. If you're a fan of theater and/or baseball, Joe encourages you to check it out!

joe says "wish walk"

Every 38 minutes, the Make-A-Wish foundation grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in the United States and its territories; every five days, it is the wish of a Maine child. Make-A-Wish's mission is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Joe has always been touched by this amazing organization, and he hopes that the Walks for Wishes event, Thursday May 15th through Sunday May 17th, is a great success. Please find more about this event on its official website, and please try to lend a hand to this organization in any way you can. Photography by Corey Templeton. joe says "call joe"

The Law Offices of Joe Bornstein, your favorite personal injury and social security disability attorneys serving the entire great state of Maine, created this website so that the people of Portland can finally figure out what Joe is trying to say with those cryptic messages up on the Time & Temp Building. Whether it's a local non-profit looking for exposure, a small local business hoping to get the word out, a pain-in-the-you-know-what parking ban, or just a righteous cause that Joe believes in, the Time/Temp speaks to the city of Portland from its perch atop the city. If you've ever found yourself or someone else asking what ol' Joe is trying to say up there, then be sure to tell your friends, portlandtimetemp.com is the place to find out. And don't forget- when you're in a bind, Call Joe!

joe says "dtwn day"

One of Joe's favorite things about Portland is the entrepreneurial spirit of the city- a bakery here, a flower shop there, this city has plenty of great businesses offering goods and services everyone can appreciate. This Friday, May 2nd, is the fourth annual Downtown Worker Appreciation Day, put on by one of Joe's favorite organizations, Portland Buy Local. At Tommy's Park, Monument Square, and the Art Museum, there will be food, beverages, and gift bags available to downtown workers. Find more about the event at the official websiteand remember- Joe always says Buy Local.

joe says "bike swap"

Once an avid rider himself, Joe is happy to spread the word about the Bicycle Coalition of Maine's Great Maine Bike Swap, happening on Sunday, April 27th from 10am-1pm at USM's Sullivan Center, with bike drop-off from 4-7pm on Saturday, April 26th. The Bike Swap offers a great way to buy used bicycles at an affordable price.  You also can sell the bikes cluttering your garage or basement and turn them into cash. At the swap, you can choose from hundreds of bikes, including hybrids, road bikes, mountain bikes, children's bikes, recumbents and more. To find more about the Bicycle Coalition and the bike swap, check out their website. Joe hopes the event is a great success and that everyone finds the wheels they're looking for.

joe says "don8 life"

Joe wants to spread the word about National Donate Life Month. Every day in April, people across the U.S. make a special effort to celebrate the tremendous generosity of those who have saved lives by becoming organ, tissue, marrow, and blood donors and to encourage more Americans to follow their fine example. Last year alone, organ donors made more than 28,000 transplants possible. Another one million people received cornea and other tissue transplants that helped them recover from trauma, bone damage, spinal injuries, burns, hearing impairment and vision loss. Unfortunately, thousands die every year waiting for a donor organ that never comes, but you have the power to change that. Find more information at organdonor.gov.

joe says "sea dogs"

Batter up, Portland! Springtime is here, and you know what that means: freshly-cut grass, broken-in leather mitts, and nice cold Sea Dog biscuits. Thursday, April 10th is the home opener for Joe's favorite baseball team, the Portland Sea Dogs, as they begin their 20th season. If you're local, be sure to check out the AA affiliate of the Red Sox at their home at Hadlock Field.  Find more about the Sea Dogs on their website, and see you at Hadlock!
