A perennial favorite message of Joe's Team, "STRV RCKS" is once again flashing on the Time & Temp to promote Strive Rocks, an annual dance marathon that benefits Strive U, a comprehensive program providing post-secondary education and training to young adults with developmental disabilities in the realms of residential, employment, and community skills with the goal of enabling its graduates to live and work as full community members with maximum independence, productivity, and dignity. This year Strive U is taking Strive Rocks virtual-- beginning at 8pm tonight, May 7th, the fun will go until 8am on the 8th. Find more about the event and the organization here. The goal is to have as many people as possible participate in the overnight marathon and to raise the most money of any Strive Rocks marathon yet. Joe's Team hopes Strive U reaches these goals and continues to do the amazing work on behalf of young adults!

In our line of work, Joe's team has seen too many lives ruined by dangerous driving. To raise awareness about this important issue, we hold the Arrive Alive Creative Contest each year for graduating high school seniors throughout Maine. Now in its 17th year, seniors may enter by submitting a creative project that sends a message to their peers about the dangers of drinking and driving and/or distracted driving.

Past entries have included essays, poems, paintings, public service announcements, videos, original songs, t-shirts, board games, drawings and more. The more creative, the better! First place winners receive a new laptop computer, second and third place winners receive a new iPad, and everyone who enters wins fun prizes from the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein.

Only three days until the deadline for this year's contest. A complete set of rules and all past winners can be found at ArriveAliveCreativeContest.comJoe's team encourages any and all high school seniors in Maine to submit an entry into the contest, and more importantly encourages everyone on the road to practice safe driving techniques.

Have you ever wanted to make a difference in your community but felt like you needed help? Joe knows how much being part of a group can empower an individual, and that's why he's proud to promote the Southern Maine chapter of 100 Women Who Care. 100 Women Who Care Southern Maine is a group of local women who are interested in supporting our communities by contributing to Southern Maine charities together as a group to increase the impact. The organization's mission is to reach out and help the community by finding 100 or more women (the count is currently almost 400!) to each contribute $50 four times a year in order to give $20,000+ annually to local charities. All charities and organizations up for consideration must be in the Southern Maine area. The idea is to keep it local and have an impact that can be seen in our communities!

100 Women's next meeting is tonight, Monday night, May 3rd. Given these strange times, tonight's meeting will be held via ZOOM. Lending a helping hand as part of a strong community has never been easier- you can do it from the comfort of your own home!

Find out more about this local organization here, and please consider joining the movement!

Joe's Team believes that children are our greatest resource and that we therefore must invest in them, as they are our future. Today we're promoting an organization that does just that: KidsPeace is a private charity dedicated to serving the behavioral and mental health needs of children, families and communities. Founded in 1882, KidsPeace provides a unique psychiatric hospital; a comprehensive range of residential treatment programs; accredited educational services; and a variety of foster care and community-based treatment programs to help people in need overcome challenges and transform their lives. The experts at KidsPeace provide emotional and physical health care and educational services in an atmosphere of teamwork, compassion and creativity.

KidsPeace has a presence here in Maine: its campus in Ellsworth Programs offers treatment for youth on the autism spectrum, and highly structured expert psychiatric care for youth who require 24-hour clinical, residential and educational services and supervision.

There are nearly 400,00 children in foster care in the US, with over 250,000 entering each year. Here in Maine, there are roughly 2200 children in our care, with 1700 licensed foster homes. If you think foster parenting may be in your future, please learn more about this process here.

Today Joe's team is spreading an important reminder: Never Again, in honor of Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month. The Maine Chapter of Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), is asking Mainers to never forget the atrocities that have been perpetrated against millions of innocent people throughout history, and to make sure that we do our part to ensure it never happens again.

joe says "#whd day"

This weekend Joe's team is spreading the word about World Hemophilia Day. To be held tomorrow, April 17th, WHD is about bringing the global bleeding disorders community together. With the COVID-19 pandemic having a major impact on people with a bleeding disorder, that objective has never been more important.

Here in Maine we have a local nonprofit that's doing the good work of supporting folks with bleeding disorders. The Hemophilia Alliance of Maine is partnering with the Connecticut Hemophilia Society and the New England Hemophilia Association to celebrate the 31st Annual World Hemophilia Day. Please visit the Hemophilia Alliance of Maine here and learn more about their celebration of World Hemophilia Day here.

Joe's team offers these wonderful organizations our heartfelt thanks for supporting the community of those with bleeding disorders, and hopes tomorrow's events are a great success!
