Joe continues to be impressed by how many local businesses and nonprofits are adapting in order to fulfill their missions during these challenging times. Well, add another to the list: Maine College of Art (MECA) is hosting its annual COLLECT sale virtually this year.
The annual COLLECT Art Sale is now online to preview at shop.meca.edu! On June 18, buyers will have the opportunity to purchase over 700 works from 142 artists - MECA students, alumni, staff, and friends of the college. Funds raised will go to student scholarships and artists who sell work will receive a 50% commission. During these challenging economic times, artists need your support more than ever.
The sale begins with a Zoom reception, Connect@COLLECT, on June 18 from 5:15 - 5:45 pm. Join for live toasts from Governor Janet Mills, Featured COLLECT Artist Daniel Minter & Marcia Minter, Hon DFA '19, Mayor Kate Snyder, Collector Kate Malin, Featured COLLECT Artist Kathy Bradford, Collector Caren Zand, and Congresswoman Chellie Pingree.
Online sales will open at 6 pm. There are 14 pieces from featured artists that will be part of an auction while the remaining items are available for purchase at list price. The sale runs through June 21 at 6 pm.
Joe hopes the event goes off without a hitch, and wishes everyone continued safety and health.
